WOW. You probably don’t need me to tell you, but it’s only 3 weeks and 2 days until Christmas! And how far along are you in your Christmas preparations? Maybe you’re all set and your house is decked out from top to toe, presents all wrapped and you’re in the final throes of sorting the finishing touches. Or perhaps (like me!), the house pretty much still looks as it did at any other month of the year except that there’s satsumas in the fruit bowl rather than nectarines and cherries…
Wherever you’re at, this week’s article is all about making this Christmas your most yummy Christmas yet. Here’s 7 of my top yummy tips. Make them happen and you’ll be all-consumed in festive yumminess all the way through into 2012!
1) Set the scene. A crisp clean backdrop is definitely what you need to set the scene for yumminess. So set aside half a day or even a whole day this weekend to scrub and sort your home from top to bottom (get the kids involved if it means Santa will drop them an extra little something, or go and see him in the next 7 days so they can bag their bonus sooner). When you’re all fresh and clean, you’re ready to begin.
2) Deck the halls. So, how’s your home going to look this year? Big tall tree and lots of twinkling fairy lights, natural wreaths bought or home- made, or candles, candles, candles? Whatever you’re doing, now’s the time to consider decking a little more naturally, or brightly – or both! Why not set the intention of having your Christmas decorations reflect what you or your family hope for more of this season? This way your décor has some real meaning behind it and the whole activity of beautifying your home becomes so much more conscious and ALIVE.
3) Continuing with the theme... Whatever theme you choose for your décor, make your vision bigger still by bringing it into everything you do. Whether it’s the presents you buy, the way you wrap them, your modus operandi throughout the whole of the next 3-4 weeks, live your theme. Be more natural, dazzling, simple, spiritual, or whatever it is, be the yumminess of your choosing!
4) Your festive feast. Last week I suggested how best to approach your food shopping this winter (if you missed the article, you can find it here). This week, as you start to think increasingly about what you’ll be eating over the holidays, it’s time to start collecting recipes ready for making in the next week or so.
5) Gift yourself. What is the essence of what you most wish for yourself, personally, at a deeper, more soulful level this Christmas? Is it peace, sparkle, joy, abundance, luxury, comfort? How about giving yourself a gift that embodies what you *most* wish for yourself this season? It doesn’t have to be large and expensive, in fact small but perfectly formed is often the superior choice. Commit to buying your gift in the next 48 hours. Wrap it beautifully as soon as you get it home and from the moment you unwrap it on Christmas morning keep it somewhere highly visible, such as in your purse or on your office desk or on a frequently passed by place in your home that you especially love. This way you’ll have a constant reminder of what’s really important to you and a sign that *you* - yes you! - are wonderfully capable of giving yourself what you most wish for in life.
6) A gift to others. And if you want to give others the same gift, again, a small token of yumminess and whatever seems most appropriate for them, then I’m sure your nearest and dearest will adore you for your thoughtfulness, and your meaningful gift of love, peace or prosperity will be something they too will want to carry around with them long after the Christmas festivities are over. Never underestimate the power of the personal heartfelt touch. It’s priceless.
7) One final wrap of yumminess. Whether your life is super-hectic or charismatically calm this Christmas, the most yummy thing you can possibly do for yourself is to create yourself a cosy spot within your home just for you. I’ve done this myself and it’s wonderful! Choose a room in your home, or a corner or space that you can claim to be just yours. Then deck it out with anything that you consider to be “yummy” or “snuggly” and use that space to spend quiet time reading, writing or reflecting on what really matters to you today, tomorrow, as you go into the forthcoming festivities and all the way into a brand new and sparkling 2012. (For me this means a duvet to sprawl out on, my gorgeously silky throw to lay under, soft lighting by my reading space, a huge artbook-cum-notebook, a packet of my favourite brightly coloured writing pens, plus candles – and lots of them, all around me creating a truly magical space. Bliss!)
