Having a great juicing routine is wonderful – if you know what to juice! So for those of you who are new to juicing, here’s my tips for getting started.
In terms of what juices to make, in the early days I think it’s fun and almost necessary to experiment with fruit juices, fruit and vegetable juices (yes, in spite of what some people might tell you, often these juices are among the best and have no negative side effects), pure vegetable juices – alone or in combination and, of course green juices, which may or may not be sweetened with fruit or sweet vegetable juices. In time you will likely discover for yourself that the fruit juices are good for picking you up, the vegetable juices make you feel truly nourished and the green juices balance you, reduce food cravings and make you feel nourished AND high! Take your pick!
Good Juicing Bases
The following are good bases to build on to create your own delicious juicing recipes. Nothing exotic here, but that’s the point – start with something simple and then you can jazz it up whatever way you like it.
- Carrot and apple
- Carrot, apple and orange
- Carrot, apple and pineapple
- Carrot, apple and beetroot
- Carrot, spinach and apple
- Apple and orange
- Pineapple and orange
- Lemon and lime
- Spinach and cucumber
- Spinach, cucumber and celery
As I say, this is just for starters; there is a big wide world of fresh juices out there waiting for you! (See one of my favourite recipes, “Happy Juice”, below, which evolved from the humble carrot, apple and orange base. It went on to become very special indeed…)
So, there we have it:
1) What you need to juice (see Part 1)
2) How to juice (see Part 1)
3) What to juice
Now it’s time to stop making excuses and get on and do it!
Your Coaching Challenge
My coaching challenge to you this week is to:
1) Create a quick and easy juicing routine that works for you on a daily basis like the one I shared last week. I want you to find a way of making juicing a daily part of your life, so that it slips effortlessly into your morning or evening routine, or whatever time works best for you. For me, I have found that morning usually works best and I tend to make extra to store in the fridge for later – which saves a lot of time and energy. In the past when I had to leave the house to go to work, I got my daily juice in when I got home from work, just before I sat down to dinner. It would take the edge off my appetite and create an awesome “starter” for my evening meal and I would often drink it while rustling up a large salad.
2) Find or create at least three fresh juices that you adore.
3) You have decided on a time of the day, every day, that you are going to juice for at least ONE whole week to feel the difference. Going beyond this is the bigger goal. Ideally you will love the taste and the benefits so much that you will simply keep going!
4) You can get all the ingredients together, washed and prepared within three minutes per recipe.
5) You can juice all the ingredients in five minutes or less.
6) The washing up of everything involved in your juicing routine will either comprise of a 2-3 minute rinse and drain or being put in the dishwasher. More than this and juicing will start to feel like a bind.
