It’s a strange phenomenon alright, and one you may not have heard discussed before, but my understanding is that the more raw you go, the more you either want to totally put money out of your life and wish that it didn’t exist OR the more you want to earn/create/gain financially, instead. This might sound contradictory, but what both scenarios have in common is one big and very important thing for raw food visionaries … FREEDOM.
Perhaps you have discovered this for yourself. The fact is that the more you clean out your body and get in touch with yourself, the more you realise that you want to create a different life, a life that is more in keeping with your true self, the Self that you are becoming more of as you detoxify on every level.
It’s not news that this “raw transformation” occurs, and I’ve been speaking about it and marveling at it for many many years now, but what is news – at least to me, now that I’ve finally become aware of it – is how this plays out in our financial life.
After almost two decades of watching people take one of two paths (“conscious poverty” or the pursuit of prosperity), it’s clear to me now why taking stock of your relationship with money, and really thinking about it and mastering it, is critical to your raw food success and quality of life.
I’ve been there myself, many times. Moving home multiple times, earning varying amounts of money as I tried to figure out what my life purpose was, downsizing, upgrading – you name it. All of the transitions that have been part of my own raw transformation have either taken money to make them happen, or resulted in a reduced income in order to “follow my path”.
This is all well and good, and perhaps you can relate, but what wasn’t quite so pretty was the complete lack of consciousness that I approached these transitions with in financial terms as I applied “magical” thinking to money, hoping it would just miraculously show up when I needed it.
The fact is, that while most of the time it did, it usually was only “just enough” and usually wasn’t in the ideal way (i.e. via credit). I had a LOT to learn about money and what it really takes to nurture it and be in a really great place with it – a place where I wasn’t wasting precious energy worrying about how I was going to create the life of my dreams when I didn’t know where the next penny was coming from. I wouldn’t say that was a “dream life”, would you?! And I know my experience is not unique.
The conclusion I’ve come to over the years, having watched many others go the opposite way and eschew money, seeing it as “bad” (or worse), is that money is NOT bad (it’s neutral) – it’s what we do with it that counts, and also, how we feel about it. I’ve also learned that life is a lot easier when you have money than when you don’t, and making those big dreams come true is very hard work when you don’t have it, or are constantly worrying about it.
This is why I feel every raw foodie owes it to themselves to address their financial habits as well as their eating ones. It is not great to be in a “poor” state with either (we don’t get to be fully present and truly enjoy our life when our energy is wrapped up with other concerns) and our experience of life can be blocked or even ruined when we don’t master both.
So my coaching question to you today is:
“On a scale of 1-10, what do you consider to be your current level of financial health and, to what degree is that supporting or denying you living your life to the full?”
I look forward to reading your answers and any other comments (money is a highly emotive subject by the way!) in the comments section below.
