(And not just one, but BOTH varieties!) I could hardly believe my eyes!
At The Fresh Network we had been selling it for well over a year, maybe even two, but we still didn't expect it to hit supermarket shelves before the year 2010 or thereabouts!
But there it was. Truly wow!
Next question: Ah, but is it RAW?
I decided to go straight the "horses mouth" - and that meant to email The Groovy Food Company, the importers and suppliers of this product.
And here's what they said...
Our Agave Nectar, both the rich and the mild, have been heated to 161 degrees F (70-72 degrees C). We are in the process of looking at a 'raw' Agave Nectar for the UK market. This is heated only to 115 degrees F (46 degrees C) which is deemed appropriate for those following a raw food diet. Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to give the launch date of this product but will keep the website updated with information on its availability.
We do have a raw product that we believe will be of great interest to you. Cool Oil is a blend of organic, cold-pressed flax, hemp, pumpkin and evening primrose oils. It offers a balance of the essential fatty acids, omega 3 and 6, in a 2:1 ratio.... considered the optimum ratio for the body's needs and provides an ideal alternative to oily fish. Our bodies cannot make omega 3 and 6 but desperately need them to function at cellular level. Therefore we have to get them from our diet. Oily fish and fish capsules will give you plenty of omega 3, but not enough omega 6; hemp oil offers a good dose of omega 6 but not enough omega 3. Cool Oil offers the optimum balance of twice as much omega 3 to 6 and it is this balance that seems to be hitting the spot for many. It is not a health gimmick or even a supplement; Cool Oil is simply a food.
We cannot make medical claims for any condition, and are promoting Cool Oil simply as a highly nutritious food rich in the essential fatty acids, omega 3 and 6. However, having said that, our founder, Rosie Hayward, did indeed find that taking seed oils which offered a good balance of the essential fatty acids omega 3 and 6, helped her arthritis improve dramatically. Our bodies whether ill or not, require this balance on a regular basis and essential fatty acids do have the potential to help with many problems such as inflammation in joints, skin problems, lack of energy and stamina, heart and brain function and immune strength. We have been overwhelmed in recent months by the positive testimonials we have had and continue to receive from many customers who have found great relief from arthritic and other health conditions by taking Cool Oil. We are delighted that it is helping many people.
We believe Cool Oil to be a fundamental part of our diet and if it can help people, which it does seem to be doing, then it does show that we are in general, lacking a good balance of essential fatty acids on a regular basis.
Although Cool Oil cannot be used for cooking, as it will destroy the goodness, it can be used for pouring over cereal, soups, pasta, mash, rice, stews etc, adding to smoothies, yogurt and juice, for dipping or just enjoying on its own.
Please do not hesitate to contact us again for any further information about Cool Oil or visit www.groovyfood.co.uk.
Thank you so much for your interest in our products.

"The Cool Oil is not heated in any way - a truly raw food. Cool Oil is a simple blend of organic, cold pressed flax, hemp, pumpkin and evening primrose seeds. It is cold pressed using a traditional process that does not involve the use of chemical solvents. The seeds are not roasted previous to oil extraction. Any heat treatment would destroy the good properties Cool Oil contains. As flax seed oil is very sensitive to light and oxygen, Cool Oil is stored in a dark green bottle and the Oil is nitrogen spurged to remove oxygen before the cap is sealed. The Oil will last for up to a year from bottling, but once opened must be stored in a refrigerator and used within 6 weeks."
So there we have it! By pursuing one food I ended up discovering that another one was raw (which I shall be buying!) and also that lower priced truly raw agave is on its way... at some point! Naturally as soon as I have word I shall pass it on.
In the meantime do visit the Groovy web site to check out more about all of these products as it makes for very groovy reading!
