The Raw Food Groups
There are a surprising number of different food groups open to us when we go raw. When I first began exploring raw foods aged 20, I was shocked at how many foods and groups of foods I had not touched before I came across the concept of raw food.
Below is a list of all these groups. I advise people to make sure that they are eating a wide range of foods from this list, not least because variety = optimum nutrition, and don't forget quality too, of course.
- Fresh fruits
- Vegetables
- Salad vegetables
- Leafy green vegetables
- Herbs
- Wild greens
- Nuts
- Dried fruits
- Beans, pulses and legumes (sprouted)
- Grains (sprouted)
- Seeds
- Sprouting seeds
- Indoor greens
- Vegetable seeds (brocolli, mustard, cress etc.)
- Edible flowers
- Mushrooms
- Sea vegetables
- Algaes
- Oils
- Stimulants (onion, garlic, cayenne pepper etc.)
- Spices
- Flavourings and sweeteners (cacao, agave nectar, mesquite meal etc.)
- Superfoods
- Other handy additions (nut butters, seed butters, flax crackers etc.)
And then there’s the all-important vital ingredient – water! But more about that in another post.

What so you do in the freezing depths of winter when you feel like something warm? I'm just starting out with raw food so don't really know a thing, but it's winter here in NZ and I'm just wondering does going raw mean you never eat or drink anything warm again?

my 14 months old boy is eating 100% raw and no matter what he does, he just don't have any cold or runny nose.

How much do you eat? Is there a portion size? I struggle with diets and weight loss.
