I promised a client that I would post this dressing recipe asap. Why? Because it's simple, delicious, quick and easy and makes all the difference to a salad and, finally, being new to this and all, she needs it!
I created this dressing as a variation on the simple vinaigrette. Not that there's anything wrong with the aforementioned, but sometimes, for whatever reason, we yearn for a taste-bud assault and that's not always the deal with an undressed or plainly dressed salad, is it?
So, a few weeks ago, while on a dressing creation mission, I set about satisfying the taste-buds fully and completely by using every great chef's secret knowledge. And what might that be? I'm glad you asked : )
Sweet ~ Sour ~ Salty ~ Bitter ~ Pungent
is the answer to the question. And the question is: What are the 5 flavours that the taste-buds recognise (and yearn for)?
And basically, if you can create a recipe that includes at least one ingredient that ticks each of the 5 boxes, then you pretty much have it - so long as the result is palatable of course!
So without further ado, the recipe:
Karen's Taste-Bud Tantalising Salad Dressing
Simply take each of the following ingredients, place into a salad dressing shaker or jam jar with lid, and shake well until fully mixed:
Base: Approx. 1 cup of olive oil + 1/2 cup of pure water (the water makes it less oily and gummy)
Sweet: Honey OR Agave nectar (about 1 Tablespoon)
Sour: 2-3 Tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
Salty: A liberal shaking of a natural flavoured salt like Herbamare
Bitter: The juice of half a lemon
Pungent: Crushed garlic if you haven't used a spicy salt (above)
TOP TIP: Make more than you need as this will last well in a fridge for at least a week - and you'll be glad you did!

Great you came up with that recipe. The proportions are right. Classic ingredients can produce winners like this one!
